Part time position 20 hours per week

 

POSITION SUMMARY:  

The occupational therapy assistant works with students identified with having disabilities that interfere with their ability to perform daily life activities and participate in necessary and desired occupations and limit their functional academic development and access to the general curriculum.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

 

  • Supports the Occupational Therapist in addressing the functional and academic needs of students identified for services
  • Supports screening and assessments of students
  • May assist in the interpretation of assessment results to teacher and parents
  • Implements, and monitors IEPs for all students eligible for occupational therapy services
  • Participates in IEP meetings as appropriate
  • Provides direct services to students as indicated on specific IEP's
  • Assists teachers in observing and describing concerns regarding impairments
  • Maintains inventory of therapeutic equipment and materials
  • Participates in the Early Intervention team process as appropriate
  • Participates in in-service activities in the area of occupational therapy
  • Establishes and maintain good rapport with students, employees, community members and vendors
  • Communicates effectively, both orally and in written form
  • Participates in professional growth activities
  • Maintains a high level of ethical behavior and confidentiality
  • Performs other job related duties as assigned

 

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES AND REGISTRATION:

  • Associates degree in Occupational Therapy Assistant
  • Obtain and maintain a valid Arizona Identity Verified Prints (IVP) Fingerprint Clearance Card (AZ IVP FPCC)

 

EXPERIENCE:

  • Two years occupational therapy experience, preferred

                                           

KNOWLEDGE OF:

  • Medical/surgical/pediatric information and indications for occupational therapy treatment
  • Uses and properties of supplies and equipment
  • Specialized equipment relevant to area of assignment

 

 


 

SKILLS AND ABILITIES REQUIRED:

  • Computer Skills – Demonstrated competency in computer applications such as Word, Excel, Outlook, and typing.
  • Communication Skills – Ability to read and interpret general documents such as employee handbooks and safety/training manuals. Ability to write general correspondence and speak effectively with others.
  • Math Ability – Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide in all units of measure using whole numbers, common fractions and decimals.
  • Reasoning Ability – Ability to interpret assortment of instructions furnished in variable forms. Ability to apply reason to research and solve moderately complex issues with little or no assistance.
  • Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board may find appropriate and acceptable.
  • Physical Demands – While performing the duties of this job, an employee is frequently required to sit, talk, and hear. The employee occasionally will stand and walk.  The employee is occasionally required to reach with hands and arms.  Employee will frequently interact with the public and other staff members.  Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision.
